Application

The Nathan Peter Levinson Foundation invites dedicated and motivated individuals to apply for admission to its training programs.
The Regina Jonas Seminary  for Liberal (Reform) Rabbinical training, the Abraham J. Heschel Seminary for Conservative (Masorti) Rabbinical training, and the Louis Lewandowski Seminary for Cantoral training are now open to new students.

Our programs are designed for individuals who wish to actively shape Jewish life in Germany and Europe and to assume responsibility for Jewish communities and institutions.

Studies and Degrees

Rabbinical and cantorial training is integrated into the BA and MA degree programs of the School of Jewish Theology at the University of Potsdam

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.): 3 years
  • Master of Arts (M.A.): 2 years
 

Upon completion of their studies, students receive: 

  • an academic degree in Jewish Theology, and 
  • ordination as a rabbi or certification as a cantor, respectively. 

Who Can Apply?

Our programs are open to individuals who:

  • are members of a Jewish community,
  • seek training as a rabbi or cantor,
  • demonstrate a strong interest in Jewish tradition, liturgy, and communal life,
  • live in Germany or are willing to relocate their primary place of residence to Germany.

Application Process

Applicants are required to submit:

  • a completed application form,
  • short essays responding to seminar-specific prompts,
  • two letters of recommendation:
    • one rabbinical,
    • one academic.

Application Deadlines

Applications to the seminaries of the Nathan Peter Levinson Foundation are accepted for:

  • Summer semester: March 15
  • Winter semester: July 15

Important Note 
The training programs include mandatory in-person study periods in Potsdam.
