Dr. Dmitrij Belkin

Board of the foundation

Dr. Dmitrij Belkin wurde 1971 in der Ukraine geboren. Er lebt seit 1993 in Deutschland. Dmitrij Belkin ist promovierter Historiker und Kurator. Er hat mehrere Bücher sowie akademische und publizistische Artikel zur deutsch- und osteuropäisch-jüdischen Geschichte und Gegenwart sowie zu den Themen des interreligiösen Dialogs veröffentlicht. Belkin war u.A. im Jüdischen Museum Frankfurt, dem Fritz Bauer Institut und bei ELES (jüdische Begabtenförderung) tätig. 2019 übernahm Dr. Belkin die Leitung des Projekts „Schalom Aleikum“, das den jüdisch-muslimischen Dialog analysiert und fördert. Im Jahr 2024 wurde er zum Vorstand (Geschäftsführer) der neu gegründeten Nathan Peter Levinson Stiftung ernannt.

Lorenz Hegeler

Speaker of the Executive Board

Lorenz Hegeler studied Catholic Theology and Empirical Cultural Studies (B.A.) and Interreligious Studies (M.A.) with a focus on Christian-Jewish dialog in Würzburg and Bamberg from 2017-2023. For two years, he worked as a project assistant at the “Denkfabrik Schalom Aleikum” of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, where he was involved in the content and organization of dialogue podiums and educational workshops. Since the establishment of the Nathan Peter Levinson Foundation in October 2024, he has been a consultant to the board. He is also completing a doctorate in modern history at the University of Potsdam on Jewish art as an opportunity for self-empowerment using the example of Rachel Wischnitzer.

Yustyna Koval

Team assistant / coordinator in the area of organization, databases and finance

Yustyna Koval studied German language and literature at the Ivan Franko National University in Lviv. In 2021, she moved to Bamberg, where she completed a Master’s degree in Literature and Media Studies at the Otto Friedrich University on a scholarship from the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

From 2022 to 2024, she worked as a project assistant at BayBIDS, an initiative to promote cooperation between Bavarian universities and German schools abroad and partner schools. Since 2020, she has been involved in the Bamberg:UA e. V. association, which supports medical care in Ukraine and German-Ukrainian cultural exchange.

She also translates and edits texts for the German editorial team of the multimedia research project Ukraïner.

Helena Rohwerder

Press & Public Relations Officer

Helena Rohwerder studied media and communication design at the Münster School of Design.

After several years of editorial work in the German television and media landscape, including for UFA, Endemol Shine and Florida TV, she most recently worked as a project manager and editor for audiovisual media at Studio36.

Today, she contributes her experience in editing, project management and audiovisual communication to the foundation’s public relations work and accompanies the communication of its content from conception to publication.

Dr. Konstantin Schuchardt

Study Assistance & Recruiting

Konstantin Schuchardt studied Jewish Studies and History and Culture of the Near East (B.A.) at the Freie Universität Berlin and completed the Master’s program Judaism in Historical Context (M.A.), funded by the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich-Studienwerk.

From 2017 to 2020, he completed his doctorate at the Institute of History at the University of Potsdam under Prof. Dr. Thomas Brechenmacher on Jewish reform theology in the pre-March period. His dissertation was published in 2023 under the title Sigismund Stern und die Genossenschaft für Reform.

His professional experience includes working as a project coordinator for community coaching at the Central Council of Jews in Germany and as a consultant for analysis and knowledge production in the community development department.

Michelle Bernstein

Student assistant

Michelle Bernstein is a student of religious studies at the University of Potsdam. In her work, she focuses on Polish-Jewish cultural and literary history, Jewish mysticism and the role of female mystics in the Abrahamic traditions. Her research also focuses on modern Jewish philosophical and intellectual history, the Yiddish language, literature and film, as well as Hasidism in Galicia.
